COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior Missy Siegel hit a two-run home run to help the Maroon team to a 7-1 win in game one of the Maroon and White Series at the Aggie Softball Complex on Tuesday.

The Portland, Texas, native hit the only home run of the evening, while freshman Taran Tyler led the Maroon offense, going 2-for-4 with a triple in the top of the fifth.

Sophomore Mel Dumezich powered in the first two runs of the game for Maroon on a double up the middle in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Sydney Shannon crossed the plate on the hit after reaching on a double, followed by Tyler who recorded a single to left center.

The Maroon team added another run in the next inning when Tyler's triple pushed Shannon home. Tyler scored a second run on a sacrifice bunt by Siegel, tallying the score to 4-0.

Catcher Meagan May led the White team's defense in the top of the sixth, picking off freshman Emily Albus at first to end the inning with no runs and one hit. The Spring, Texas, native then added a hit of her own for the White team in the bottom of the inning.

The sophomore led White from the plate, going 2-for-2. Senior Kelsey Spittler and freshman Allison Garrett each recorded doubles for White.

Freshman Amber Garza and redshirt junior Lindsey Sisk each drew walks, forcing White team pinch runner, freshman Cassie Tysarczyk across the plate and bring the score to 4-1.

In the top of the seventh, senior Rhiannon Kliesing recorded a double for Maroon and later scored on a single by freshman Nicole Morgan. Siegel then slammed a two-run shot to left center.

White was unable to answer in the bottom of the inning, leaving the final score 7-1 in favor of Maroon.

The best-of-three series will continue Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex, followed by a final game Thursday at the same time if necessary. Admission is free to the public.
