MADISON, Wisconsin - Texas A&M placed 10th and 17th in the women's and men's field, respectively, while competing in a talent-laden Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday amid a picture perfect day for cross country racing at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course.
A field of teams that included eight ranked men's teams and five ranked women's teams gave the Aggie crews a midseason test as they continue preparations for the conference meet held at the end of the month. With temperatures in the 50s on a sun-splashed day, the only obstacle amid the elements was a brisk wind.
No. 11 Syracuse won the women's title with 89 points as No. 29 North Carolina placed second with a tally of 98 points. No. 20 Michigan State (109) placed third ahead of No. 22 Michigan (113) and Indiana (151).
No. 7 Florida had the individual women's winner in Charlotte Browning, who covered the 6,000-meter course in 20:13.4, but the Gators placed seventh as a team with 195 points.
Texas A&M women, who totaled 256 points, finished behind Nebraska (248) and ahead of Kansas (289) as the Big 12 trio placed ninth, 10th and 11th. Host Wisconsin (363), who is ranked No. 26 in the nation, finished in 15th place among 20 teams.
In the men's race No. 25 Indiana, who placed their first five among the top 20, bettered seven higher ranked teams to claim the men's title with 43 points. Host Wisconsin, ranked sixth nationally, finished as runner-up with 75 points.
No. 23 Princeton (112), who had the individual winner in Donn Cabral (23:29.0 for 8,000 meters), placed third ahead of No. 11 Syracuse (131), the defending team champion, and No. 16 Oklahoma (132).
The Aggie men totaled 426 points to place behind Nebraska (400) and Kansas (405) as those three Big 12 schools finished 15th, 16th and 17th among 21 schools.
Individually for the A&M women Katherine Devlin led the team for the third consecutive meet as she placed 20th with a time of 20:44.8. The next Aggie through the finish line was Natosha Rogers, who lost her shoe during the race, in 47th place with a clocking of 21:11.8.
