SPRING, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team notched two shutouts with a 6-0 win over Houston and a 5-0 victory over Southern Miss in the first day of the Spring Klein College Classic on Saturday.

The Aggies (4-0) remained unbeaten in their fall season and have yet to give up an earned run in 28 innings of play.

"Defensively, we were really solid today," said head coach Jo Evans. "Anytime the other teams threatened, we made plays and shut it down. Mel and Rhi threw really well and were in great command of their pitches. We had a slow start offensively, but we had great patience and ended up putting runs together and using our speed. Overall, I'm real pleased with the way we played. Everyone stepped in and did their job and it was a real team effort."

In A&M's first game of the day against Houston, the Aggies used a four-run third inning and plated runs in the next two frames.

Senior Rhi Kliesing knocked in three of the four runs in the third with a three-run home run, her first long ball of the fall. Kliesing went 2-for-3 in the game to lead the Aggies.

Junior Kelsea Orsak went 2-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI, while freshman Emily Albus hit .500 and scored two runs. Sophomore Meagan May added an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Mel Dumezich threw a complete-game shutout allowing just two hits, no walks and striking out nine.

In the second contest of the day, the Aggies got out to a 1-0 lead in the third and then added three runs in the sixth and an additional score in the top of the seventh.

Seven different players tallied hits, including doubles from freshmen Amber Garza and Taran Tyler. Garza, Tyler and fellow freshman Nicole Morgan each recorded RBIs.

Kliesing earned the win in the circle giving up four hits, no walks and fanning seven.

The Aggies continue day two action Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. against Louisiana-Lafayette and follow with a game against Galveston College at 11:45 a.m.
