COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M baseball team will conclude off-season workouts next week when the Aggies take part in the annual Fall World Series at Olsen Field.
Following a play-in game on Monday, Oct. 25, the best-of-three series will get started Tuesday, Oct. 26, with games each of the next two days. All games are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will be played regardless of outcome. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to attend.
Throughout the fall the Aggies have been divided into three squads, the Farmers, Plowboys and Roughnecks, and have competed internally for the Omaha Cup, which has become a staple of the Texas A&M baseball culture. The event features the different teams competing against one another both on and off the field in order to sharpen the competitive nature and chemistry of the squad as well as prepare it for the ultimate goal of reaching the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The Fall World Series is the culmination of the fall competition.
Among the returning talent from last season's Big 12 Championship squad are 19 letterwinners, including four 2010 All-Big 12 honorees in catcher Kevin Gonzalez, utility man Matt Juengel and pitchers John Stilson and Michael Wacha.
During the 2010 campaign, Stilson along with former Aggie pitcher Barret Loux, became the 48th and 49th Texas A&M baseball players in the program's rich history to garner All-America honors. During the spring, Stilson will aim to become the first Aggie since Jason Tyner in 1997-98 to be honored as an All-American in back-to-back seasons.
Texas A&M baseball will kick off its 2011 season on Feb. 18-20 when it hosts LeMoyne College in a three-game set at Olsen Field. The complete schedule for the spring will be finalized and released in the coming weeks.
