COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Maroon team swept the Maroon and White Series with a 5-2 win over the White team Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Aggie Softball Complex.

After three scoreless innings, Maroon broke onto the board in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Sydney Shannon led off with a single through left center, but was later thrown out at second by White's shortstop, sophomore transfer Brittany Walker.

Freshman Nicole Morgan and senior Missy Siegel followed suit with singles up the left field line. Morgan was 3-3 on the night, while Siegel went 2-3 with one double. Siegel's slug pushed freshman Taran Tyler, who reached on a fielder's choice, home for the first run of the game. Morgan and Siegel crossed the plate on a double by freshman Kaydee Rayburn, tallying the score to 3-0 in favor of Maroon.

White rallied with a run of their own in the next half inning when freshman Amber Garza scored on a single by senior Andrea Tovar. Garza led White from the plate, hitting 3-3 on the night with three singles.

Maroon was back in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs. Shannon led off and reached after being hit by a pitch. She was followed on base by Morgan who slugged her third single of the night, a line drive down the left field line. Siegel stepped up and powered off a double up the middle, sending Shannon and Morgan home, and bringing her RBI total to three on the night.

White looked promising in the top of the seventh when leadoff batter Kelsey Spittler crossed the plate on a RBI single by senior Kara Rau. Rau was left stranded, however, and Maroon prevailed 5-2 for a two-game sweep of the intra-squad series.

The Maroon and White Series concludes the fall softball lineup for the Aggies. Regular season play will begin in February with a trip to the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. For more information on Aggie softball, visit www.aggieathletics.com.
