Texas A&M Postgame Notes

Another 500-Yard Game for Sherman's Hurry-Up Offense -
The Aggies gained 521 yards on 82 plays against the Jayhawks, marking the 11th time in 20 games that A&M has gained 500 or more yards since changing to a quick-paced no-huddle offense prior to the 2009 season.

Fuller Keeps Finding Paydirt, Matches Season TD Catches Record-
Junior Jeff Fuller continued his transcendent 2010 season with 5 catches for 121 yards and two more touchdowns. His two TD catches raised his season total to nine, which matched his own school record that he set as a freshman. It was his third 100-yard receiving game of 2010 and the sixth of his career. It also marked Fuller's 27th straight game (every game of his career) with at least one catch. It was Fuller's fourth straight game with at least one TD catch, and he's had a TD catch in six of seven games in 2010.

Tannehill Shines in First Meaningful QB Action of 2010-
Junior Jerrod Johnson for the first drive of the second quarter and finished the half at QB. Tannehill and Johnson both saw action in the second half with Tannehill finishing the game once the victory was assured. Tannehill responded with a four-touchdown night - three via the air and one on the ground. Tannehill, who had 13 career attempts before today, connected on 12-of-16 passes for 155 yards and rushed for 13 yards on 5 carries. The rushing and passing TDs were the firsts of Tannehill's career.

Johnson Is New Total Offense King-
Senior quarterback Jerrod Johnson added career total offense to his already impressive resume of Texas A&M records. Johnson accounted for 167 yards of total offense against Kansas, which pushed him past the 8,876 gained by Reggie McNeal from 2002-05. Johnson's career total now stands at 8,888 in 37 career games. Johnson now owns career school records for total offense, passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and attempts, 300-yard passing games and touchdown responsibility

Johnson Becomes A&M's First 8,000-Yard Passer-
Previously the Aggies' lone 7,000-yard passer, Jerrod Johnson became Texas A&M's first 8,000-yard passer after throwing for 129 yards against the Jayhawks. He raised his career total to 8,011. Johnson broke the old mark of 6,992 career passing yards set by Reggie McNeal from 2002-05 earlier this season.

  • Jerrod Johnson NCAA-best 24-game streak of games with at least one touchdown pass ended against the Jayhawks.
  • After giving away 18 turnovers in a four-game span against Louisiana Tech, FIU, Oklahoma State and Arkansas, the Aggies have been turnover-free in the last two games.
  • The Aggies moved their record to 10-0 when rushing for more than 190 yards in the last two seasons or 20 games. In games with 190 or less rushing yards, the Aggies are 0-10. A&M rushed for 227 yards on 46 carries against the Jayhawks.
  • The Aggies came into the game ranked No. 2 nationally in rushing defense, but allowed a season-high 201 rushing yards to the Jayhawks.
  • Senior Michael Hodges had a career-high 12 tackles against the Jayhawks.
  • Junior Cyrus Gray posted his first 100-yard rushing game of 2010 by rushing for 117 yards on 13 carries against the Jayhawks. It was the fourth 100-yard rushing game of Gray's career.
  • The Aggies shook up their starting lineup against the Jayhawks. Making their first career starts were two members of Mike Sherman's 2010 signing class - freshman Jake Matthews at offensive tackle and junior transfer Jonathan Mathis at noseguard. Also non-typical starters were Cyrus Gray at running back, Steven Terrell at safety and Dustin Harris at cornerback. In another "lineup" change, defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter directed the Aggie defense from the sideline rather than his usual perch in the coaches box.
  • Do-it-all true freshman Damontre Moore added his first career interception to his already impressive stat column. Moore entered the game leading the team in quarterback sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles.
  • Game captains were: Jerrod Johnson (offense) and Terrence McCoy (special teams). A&M won the toss and deferred its choice to the second half.
  • Sophomore DeAndre Thompson, from Alief Taylor HS, was the 12th Man for the fifth straight game.
