COLLEGE STATION, Texas - A 17-hit outburst sparked a 12-3 Farmers' victory over the Plowboys at Olsen Field on Wednesday during the second game of the Texas A&M Baseball Fall World Series. The win gave the Farmers a 2-0 lead in the three-game series and secured the Omaha Cup for the squad.

Batting leadoff and playing second base for the Farmers in the contest, freshman Charlie Curl notched three hits and drove in a pair of runs to fuel the offensive cause. Sophomore outfielder Brandon Wood also collected three hits, including a triple for the Farmers, who featured six players with multiple hits on the afternoon.

On the mound, sophomore left-hander Ross Hales picked up the win after allowing just three hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings of work. Junior Estevan Uriegas collected the save by holding the Plowboys at bay during the final 3.1 frames of the contest.

Behind 1-0 after the bottom of the first, the Farmers got on the board when they came to bat during the visitors' half of the second inning. After a three-bagger from Wood got a runner into scoring position, senior infielder Kenny Jackson plated the Farmers' initial run of the game with a single. Later in the inning, Curl singled up the middle to give the Farmers a 2-1 lead.

During the top of the fourth, the Farmers notched another pair of runs, plating scores on a RBI single by Curl and a RBI ground out from junior infielder Scott Arthur.

After the two teams traded runs in the sixth and seventh innings, the Farmers came to the plate in the top of the eighth holding a 5-3 advantage. Their offense exploded in the inning with seven hits and capitalized on a pair of Plowboy errors to plate seven runs and break the game open. Among the many highlights of frame for the Farmers was a two-run triple off the bat of junior infielder Adam Smith.

The Plowboys tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, collecting three hits, but could only push across a single run giving the Farmers the victory and the Omaha Cup.

Despite the Farmers claiming the win in the series, there will be a game three on Thursday at Olsen Field beginning at 3 p.m. The game will be the conclusion of the Texas A&M baseball team's fall workout period.
