COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore B.J. Holmes added 13 to lead the maroon team to a 48-37 win in the Texas A&M basketball team's Maroon and White Game Saturday morning at Reed Arena.
Middleton connected on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, was perfect from the line and added three rebounds and two steals. Holmes was 4-of-6, hit all four of his free throws and grabbed four rebounds.
"It was good for us to get out in front of the fans and play a little bit," head coach Mark Turgeon said. "You can practice all you want, but you have to get out in front of people and see how guys react to that. Overall, we had some guys that played well. We have a lot of things to shore up, which we will in the next few weeks before the start of the regular season."
The maroon team led wire-to-wire in the 25-minute scrimmage, jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead and forcing a timeout by the white team three minutes into the game.
After trailing by as many as eight, the white team cut the deficit to three on a David Loubeau jumper with 6:28 to play, but would get no closer.
Loubeau and senior Derrek Lewis each scored 10 points to lead the white team, while freshman Kourtney Roberson added seven and junior Dash Harris scored six.
Sophomore Ray Turner contributed eight points and four rebounds for the maroon team, while senior Andrew Darko had four points, three assists, five rebounds and two steals.
The Aggies return to the court on Tuesday night when they host St. Mary's University in an exhibition game at Reed Arena. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are available online at aggieathletics.com.
