The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team tallied another first place individual finish and took a second place overall finish at the Southwest Collegiate Plunge Saturday at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.

The Aggies finished with a score of 925 points, just 71.5 points behind Texas. Rounding out team finishes was Missouri (825.5), Texas Christian University (820) and Southern Methodist University (739).

“What I was looking for in the meet was a strong effort from our guys,” A&M Head Coach Jay Holmes said. “With as much work as we're putting into practice and in the weight room, the only thing we could control in the meet was our level of effort. I was very proud of the effort the team put forward.”

Junior A&M diver Grant Nel ousted All-American Texas diver Drew Livingston for the second time in the meet with a first place finish on the 3-meter springboard event with a finals score of 424.75. Nel also won the 1-meter springboard event on the first day of the meet ahead of Livingston.

The Aggies also posted first place finishes in multiple consolation finals Saturday. Sophomore Omar Enriquez won his second consolation final of the meet in the 200 free (1:41.76), junior Amini Fonua won the consolation final of the 200 breaststroke (2:07.68) and redshirt freshman Jack Burley won the 50 freestyle consolation final (21.28).

Holmes said that Burley's swim, which would have earned him a fifth place finish in the “A” final, earned his vote for the swim of the day.

“Jack has been working very hard this year at practice,” Holmes said. “It was great to see his hard work translate into a good performance in the pool.”
