COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M basketball team plays host to St. Mary's University in an exhibition game on Tuesday evening at Reed Arena. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.
"The guys are ready to play a game," head coach Mark Turgeon said. "The great thing about playing someone else is that you can really learn from it. You can go and watch the film and really learn. We need to have more consistency (than we've had in practice), and of course defense is always something we look for. We can really learn from Tuesday night's game and we will be a lot better the next time out. The guys are really looking forward to playing St. Mary's."
St. Mary's, located in San Antonio, is a member of the Heartland Conference in NCAA Division II. The Rattlers, who finished 17-13 last year and runners up in the conference tournament, were picked to win the league this year through a vote of the head coaches and sports information directors.
A&M returns 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from a 2010 team that won 24 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season. The Aggies, one of just two teams nationally to advance to the NCAA second round each of the last five years, were picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 by the league's head coaches.
The two universities have met 10 times during regular-season play, most recently in 1985. St. Mary's downed the Aggies in that game, 70-66, at G. Rollie White Coliseum in a season which saw A&M advance to the NIT. St. Mary's leads the all-time series, 6-4.

Texas A&M will play 17 regular-season games at Reed Arena, including eight Big 12 games and nine non-conference contests. The Aggies open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 against Alcorn State at Reed Arena.
