The Texas A&M football team's offensive coaching staff was named as one of five "Game Changing Coaches" by footballscoop.com Tuesday after defeating Texas Tech Oct. 30 at Kyle Field.
Footballscoop.com chooses five NCAA Division I coaching staffs each week for the most outstanding coaching performance that weekend in college football. The other four recipients of the Game Changing Coaches were Maryland's defensive staff, Penn State's offensive staff, No. 3 Auburn's offensive staff and No. 10 Stanford's defensive staff.Â
A&M racked up a total of 623 yards on offensive Saturday in its 45-27 win against Texas Tech. The 18-point margin of victory was the largest against the Red Raiders since a 33-15 win on Sept. 30, 2000 at Kyle Field.
The A&M coaching staff gave the starting nod to junior quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who threw for a school-record 449 yards and four touchdowns in his first career collegiate start.
The Aggies also moved the ball on the ground behind the duo of sophomore Bradley Stephens, combined for 174 yards on the ground and a pair of rushing touchdowns.
After the win, A&M's record moves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12 conference. The Aggies host Big 12 opponent No. 11 Oklahoma Saturday at Kyle Field.
"I asked the guys all week long and in this ballgame in particular to raise it up a notch and play with fanatical effort, and show our fans what we're capable of," head coach Mike Sherman said. "I thought they raised their level to a very passionate energy and I was very proud of them for that."
