Shipley and Armstrong Named Academic All-District

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M seniors Rachel Shipley and Kat Armstrong were selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District women's soccer teams.

Shipley is a finance major who carries a 3.68 grade point average and was named to the Academic All-District first team. Armstrong is an international studies major who maintains a 3.55 GPA and was named to the Academic All-District second team.

Shipley earns her second College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) academic honor and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. In her career she was a two-time All-Central Region selection, she was chosen to the Big 12 All-Newcomer team, and she was selected to the All-Big 12 first team twice. Shipley was the Texas A&M Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and led the team in assists (9) and points (27) last season. She is currently a Lowes Senior CLASS finalist and has nine goals and five assists for a team-second 23 points on the season.

This is Armstrong's first year as an Academic All-District selection. She is a two-time Verizon Scholar and was recently named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team. In 2009 she footed two shots for the Aggies, placing both on frame. This season she has kicked six shots, with four on target, and netted a goal in the win over Indiana on Sept. 10.

The No. 6 Aggies ended the regular season with a Big 12 season Championship. A&M faces Oklahoma Friday in the Big 12 Championship semifinal at 5:30 p.m. at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio.
