CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Texas A&M women's tennis team continued competition at the annual Kitty Harrison Invitational today at the Cone-Kenfiled Tennis Center on the University of North Carolina campus.
A&M won four of five doubles matches played on the day, but were 2-5 in singles matches. The Aggies won all three doubles matches against UNC-Greensboro as Christi Liles and Nazari Urbina defeated Stephanie Macfarlane and Alex Whitehead, 8-5; Stephanie Davidson and Morgan Frank topped Mikayla Rogers and Niltooli Wilkins, 8-3; and Sheri Olivier and Lauren Santacroce downed Lucy Dougherty and Dilara Yurtkuran, 8-3.
A&M then split two doubles matches against William and Mary as Urbina and Davidson fell to Hope Johnson and Anik Cepeda, 8-3, and Christi Liles and Morgan Frank teamed to defeat Katie Kargl and Sydney Smith, 8-4. A&M's Sheri Olivier also picked up a win in singles, defeating William and Mary's Tori Ford, 6-1, 6-3.
A&M then faced Georgia Tech in singles. Urbina remained undefeated at the tournament in singles matches, downing Sasha Krupina, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (3), but it would be the only win for the Aggies against the Yellow Jackets. Frank fell to Christina Ngo, 6-2, 6-2, and Liles lost to Caroline Lilley, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (6). Davidson lost to Elizabeth Kilborn, 6-4, 6-4, Santacroce lost to Lynn Blau, 6-4, 7-6, and Olivier fell to Muriel Wacker, 6-2, 6-0.
A&M concludes the tournament and wraps up its fall campaign on Sunday by taking on Virginia in doubles and Vanderbilt in singles.
A&M opens the spring season on Sunday, Jan. 23 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
