The Texas A&M women's golf team finished the first round of the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas in third place of 14 teams with a score of 296.
The Aggies sit just two strokes behind Texas Christian University (294) and five strokes behind Big 12 member Colorado (291). Rounding out the day one results are Tulane (297), UTSA (298), Notre Dame (298), Tulsa (302), Baylor (303), Nebraska (306), Wisconsin (307), Central Arkansas (308), Kansas State (310), Southern Methodist (312) and Central Florida (314).
“We played pretty solid today other than the last couple holes,” Aggie head coach Sarah Beth Davis and freshman Natalie Reeves both shot a two-over 74, and are tied in tenth overall individually. Freshman Katerina Ruzickova finished tied for 20th with a first round score of three-over 75, while freshman Chelsea Mocio shot a six-over 78 on the day.
McCombs said that the team will look to finish stronger in its coming rounds in the tournament.
“We make that a point, to finish the job, but it didn't quite happen today,” McCombs said. “We look really confident with our games, we just need a few more birdie putts to fall.”
