Aggies Add a Pair of Victories on Road Trip

The Texas A&M swimming and diving team notched a couple of wins after defeating both Nova Southeastern University and Indian River State College Saturday in Fort Pierce, Fla.
A&M, which competed against both teams at the same time, won the meet versus Indian River State 167-100 and against Nova Southeastern 173-90.
“We had some guys out there doing what they're not used to doing,” said head coach Jay Holmes. “The big thing that we really told to our guys before to race was no matter what race we put them in, we wanted them to get up and race.”
Out of 15 events, the Aggies took a total of 11 first place finishes.
Senior Bryan Snowden won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.66), sophomore John McClure won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:45.49), senior Balazs Makany won the 50-yard freestyle (21.16) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.86), and sophomore John Dalton won the 100-yard freestyle (46.55).
A variety of freshman faces also touched first in the meet. Freshman Paul-Marc Schweitzer won the 400-yard individual medley (4:07.52).
“We're getting our freshman to adapt to our program,” said head coach Jay Holmes. “Paul-Marc, he had a really good day for us. He's come in and adapted to our program. Henrik is going to do a lot of good things for us. He's going to represent A&M really well. “
Junior diver Grant Nel remains unbeaten in his last three meets as he swept the 1-meter and 3-springboard events with scores of 392.48 and 381.15, respectively. Sophomore Paul Xiques also took second place on the 3-meter board behind Nel.
“Paul's qualified for zones now,” Holmes said. “He'll just keep getting better and better. Both Paul and Grant, on this trip, it's been fun seeing them getting involved with the swim team too. We get spoiled with Grant out there, he's just so consistently good.”
The Aggies swimmers will not see their next action until the University of Houston Invitational on Nov. 20 in Houston Texas, while the divers will compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA on Nov. 19-21.
