COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M cross country runner Natosha Rogers will join sophomore teammate Tara Upshaw in the NCAA Championship field after at-large selections were announced on Sunday.
The NCAA committee selected the at-large teams and individual qualifiers for the 2010 national championships, which will be held on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women's race, covering 6,000-meters will begin at 11 a.m. (CT) on Monday, November 22. A live webcast of the race will be available on NCAA.com.
Rogers placed 11th during the South Central Region meet in Waco on Saturday and was fifth among the four runners who earned automatic qualification from the race held at the Cottonwood Creek golf course. In being named by the NCAA committee, Rogers earned one of only two at-large selections bestowed among nine regions.
This marks the sixth consecutive year for Texas A&M to qualify at least an individual to the NCAA Championship in cross county. Even numbered years have seen the Aggies send multiple athletes to the national meet while odd number years have included one entrant.
Last season Joe Sauvageau represented A&M at the NCAA Championship while in 2008 the Aggie men's team advanced along with Christina Munoz and Elizabeth Slaughter. Munoz also qualified in 2007 while in 2006 A&M had a pair of qualifiers in Brian McKinstry and Merideth Snow. In 2005 the Aggie qualifier was Sarah Balfour.
