COLLEGE STATION, Texas--It was a record-setting first day of student ticket pull for the 12th Man, the Texas A&M students with an all-sports or football ticket option, as 13,678 students pulled tickets for the Saturday, Nov. 20 football game against Nebraska. Kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. central at Kyle Field with ABC television cameras on hand.
"One thing I know, Aggies respond to challenges," Director of Athletics Bill Byrne said. "The seniors and grad students did a great job by setting a record for tickets pulled on one day. The previous best was 13,615 for the Texas game in 2007. Our goal is to break the record for students at a collegiate football game. We believe the record is already held by Aggies, the 28,100 students who attended the Oklahoma game in 2002."
In addition to having a record number of students, all fans are encouraged to bring their 12th Man towels to the game. The tradition of 12th Man towels began back in the 1985 as the Aggies made their way to the Southwest Conference Championship.
Thanks to Pepsi and Nationwide Insurance, some 20,000 towels will be made available to fans as they enter Kyle Field on Saturday. Gates open at 5 p.m.
"This Saturday against Nebraska is all about the 12th Man," Director of Athletics Bill Byrne said. "I was on the other side of the field in 1998 with Nebraska when the first Maroon Out game was played. The 12th Man made a big difference that day as the Aggies beat the second-ranked Huskers."
Aggie head football coach Mike Sherman has enjoyed the support of the 12th Man. He stopped by the tents on Sunday night after meetings and film session to visit with some of the students camping out to pull tickets on Monday morning. Some of the Aggie football players handed out donuts to the students early Monday.
"The 12th Man made a big impact in our last game at Kyle Field against Oklahoma," Sherman explained. "And the folks who drove to Waco last week made it seem like we were at Kyle Field. I have said it on numerous occasions, there is not a better student body in the country. Our Aggies, the 12th Man, is without a doubt the loudest and best in the land."
Juniors will pull tickets on Tuesday at the ticket windows located at the north end of Kyle Field beginning at 7 a.m.
