RECAP: TEXAS A&M 86, TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI 65
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Nov. 15)--B.J. Holmes had 13 points, seven assists, seven steals and four rebounds to lead Texas A&M past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 86-65 before 6,071 fans at American Bank Center. Texas A&M (2-0) put the game away early, outscoring the Islanders 41-22 in the first half despite shooting only 39 percent from the floor. The Islanders (1-1) committed six turnovers in their first 11 possessions, and 10 in their first 24. At one point late in the first half, the Islanders (1-1) had almost as many field-goal attempts (12) as miscues (11). The Aggies converted the takeaways into 15 points, including Khris Middleton's tomahawk dunk off an assist from Holmes. The highlight bucket gave A&M a 23-8 lead midway through the first half.
Texas A&M Head Coach Mark Turgeon: "I was obviously really pleased. I thought we were really good for 40 minutes. It's hard to keep guys focused when you're up 20, but Corpus Christi throws a lot of different defenses at you and I thought we adjusted to all of them pretty well. We shot the ball well, shot the ball from the line and rebounded well. This early in the season, to come on the road and play like that, I was pleased. B.J. (Holmes) was good. He even missed shots he normally makes too. But he had to (step up). Dash, Naji and Khris were sitting over there with fouls. A lot of guys had to step up and B.J. did. He had a great first half, and really a great entire game. He made some big plays. Whenever you felt like they were going to make a run, B.J. put a stop to a lot of that and made a lot of big plays. Naji made a lot of big plays for us too. We're a deep team. We had a lot of guys in foul trouble and a lot of guys stepped up for us tonight, which is good."
POSTGAME NOTES: A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI

• Texas A&M's 16 steals in the win over the Islanders were the most by an Aggie team in nearly four years, when A&M swiped the ball 20 times against Grambling State on Dec. 28, 2006.
• Senior G B.J. Holmes set a career high with 7 steals Monday ... it was the most steals by an Aggie since Acie Law IV swiped 7 against Oklahoma State (1/11/06) ... Holmes also set a career high with 7 assists on the night.
• Sophomore G Naji Hibbert's 12 points were a career high.
