Junior diver for the A&M men's team Grant Nel continued his unbeaten streak as he won the men's 3-meter springboard event with a school record score of 453.00 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Nel, from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, bested the old mark of 451.35 set in 2009 by 11-time Big 12 Champion Eric Sehn. Nel used a 93-point effort on his final dive -- a front 4.5 somersault that he was attempting in competion for the first time -- to achieve the record.
Sophomore diver Paul Xiques also competed in the 3-meter and finished in 25th place in the preliminaries. Both will compete Sunday in the final day of the invitational.
