The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team posted first place finishes in an impressive seven out of eight events as they remain in first place after the second day of the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA.
A&M's two-day score of 1,143.5 points is over 400 points more than second place Florida State (696.5). Following the Aggies are Florida State, Florida (595), Miami (372), North Carolina State (228), Georgia Tech (213), Clemson (190), Florida Gulf Coast University (183), Michigan State (170), Florida Atlantic University (155), Air Force (122), Gardner-Webb University (85) and Auburn University (77).
The Aggies took first in both of the relay events with a pair of NCAA "B" cut time in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.41) and the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:10.12).
Individually, the A&M women took first in five of the six events behind three freshmen.
Emily Neal at last year's Big 12 Championships. Henry held off 2010 Pan Pacific 400 IM Champion and 2008 U.S. Olympian Elizabeth Beisel of Florida down the stretch for the victory.
Freshmen Lili Ibanez touched first in the 200-yard freestyle with a "B" cut 1:46.64 and Breeja Larson finished first with a "B" cut 1:00.03 in the 100-yard breaststroke. The Aggies also had a first place finish from sophomore Tess Simpson in the 100-yard backstroke (53.84).
On the boards, the Aggies finished first in both the men's and women's 3-meter springboard events. Senior diver Jaele Patrick rallied from an eighth place preliminary finish to win the event with a score of 315.70. Junior divers Lorena Lujan and Janie Potvin finished in thirteenth and fourteenth place, respectively, in the preliminaries of the 3-meter.
Junior diver for the A&M men's team Eric Sehn. Nel used a 93-point effort on his final dive -- a front 4.5 somersault that he was attempting in competion for the first time -- to achieve the record.
Sophomore diver Paul Xiques also competed in the 3-meter and finished in 25th place in the preliminaries. Both will compete Sunday in the final day of the invitational.
The Aggie women will also compete Sunday, which will mark the team's final competition until the Aggies travel to Houston on Dec. 4 to face off against Rice.
