UP NEXT
After its Monday night game versus Liberty, the Aggies travel to Cancun, Mexico, for the Cancun Thanksgiving Classic. A&M will face Arizona on Friday, Nov. 26 and Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 27.
RACKING UP REBOUNDS
The Aggies have dominated the boards in their first two contests and currently hold a +25.5 rebounding margin. With an average of 50 rebounds per game, A&M is also outscoring its opponents in the paint by a mark of 90-18. What's more, the Aggies more than doubled their opponents with a 101-50 advantage in rebounds.
DANIELLE'S SEEING DOUBLE
Wade Trophy Watch list selection and senior Danielle Adams scored a game-high 26 points in 25 minutes of action against Rice, which followed a 24-point performance in 23 minutes of action in A&M's season opener. Adams started the year in similar fashion last season with a team-high 24 points in 22 minutes of action in A&M's 95-77 upset of No. 6 and perennial power Duke on Nov. 15, 2009. Against UALR, Adams shot a stifling 64.7 percent from the floor (11-of-17) and was a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line. The Kansas City, Mo., native also brought down 10 rebounds in each of her first two games to record her third and fourth career double-doubles.
BABY BARKLEY?
Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair has compared Adams to former Auburn basketball and NBA star Charles Barkley. The "Round Mound of Rebound" was known for his tenaciousness on the boards and being a fan and media favorite. In only two games of the 2010-11 season, Adams has already dazzled fans on the court with her inside and outside game. She is currently averaging a team-leading 25.0 points per game and has compiled a total of 50 points in 48 minutes of play to average over one point per minute.
TEAM BRAND OF BASKETBALL
Texas A&M shared the basketball well in its season opener against the Trojans. Behind five assists from junior point guard Sydney Carter (Houston, Texas) the Aggies distributed the ball 20 times during the ballgame. A&M dished out 20 or more assists only nine times last season.
FROM THE SIDELINES
Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair is in his 26th overall season as a Division I head coach. He currently ranks in the top 20 in career victories (565) and in the top 30 by winning percentage (.704, 565-237) among active Division I coaches in the NCAA women's basketball record books.
Blair is the all-time winningest coach in program history with 157 wins and a .679 winning percentage (157-74). He surpassed former head coach Lynn Hickey, who compiled 154 career victories from 1984-1994, with an 84-53 win over Portland State in the NCAA First Round on March 20, 2010 in Seattle, Wash.
Blair is one of only four active Division I coaches (five all-time) to lead three different programs to the NCAA Tournament next to C. Vivian Stringer of Rutgers, Joanne P. McCallie of Duke and Jim Foster of Ohio State. Blair previously coached at Stephen F. Austin (1985-93) and Arkansas (1993-03). Blair and Stringer are the only two coaches to guide three different teams to the NCAA Sweet 16.
