COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The aftermath of the Texas A&M football team's rousing 9-6 upset of No. 8 Nebraska last Saturday includes being named the national team of the week and a variety of weekly honors for several players.
The Aggies were named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games the weekend of Nov. 20, the Football Writers Association of America announced. After Saturday's game, Aggie head coach Mike Sherman said, “The consequences of winning are the expectations get higher. We jumped over another hurdle and have taken another step. We still have another step to take.”
The Big 12 Conference named senior linebacker Michael Hodges the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three games after an inspired performance against the Cornhuskers. Hodges, from Helotes, Texas, seemed to be all over the field as he piled up a 14 tackles, including a game-high 12 solo stops.
Junior safety Trent Hunter garnered Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week honors after grabbing two crucial interceptions against the Cornhuskers and making four tackles.
Junior placekicker Randy Bullock accounted for all the Aggies' scoring against Nebraska by matching his career high with three field goals, and he was named the National Placekicker of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. Bullock was also named Honorable Mention Kickoff Specialist of the Week by the CFPA, and Hunter was named Honorable Mention Defensive Back of the Week by the CFPA.
