CHICAGO, IL - Texas A&M senior “joker” defensive end/linebacker Von Miller, from DeSoto, Texas, has been named one of six finalists for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award. The other finalists include Da'Quan Bowers from Clemson, Adrian Clayborn of Iowa, Ryan Kerrigan of Purdue, Jabaal Sheard of Pittsburgh and J.J. Watt of Wisconsin.
“I am blessed to be a finalist,” Miller said. “This is a tremendous honor and if it wasn't for my teammates and their fanatical effort, I would not be receiving this recognition.
The most important thing is winning games and my senior season has been a lot of fun with a great group of guys. I am looking forward to going to our bowl game and getting a chance to play one more game with these guys on my team.”
Miller was named first-team All-Big 12 on Tuesday and received honorable mention as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and was most recently named the National Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Texas on Thanksgiving as the Aggies won, 24-17. Miller recorded seven tackles with four of those coming as solo stops. Three of the stops came behind the line of scrimmage for losses of 20 yards including two quarterback sacks for losses of 12 yards. He caused a fumble, recovered a fumble and had an interception with a return of three yards. He also caused three other incompletions with quarterback hurries from his position on the edge.
“Von has had a special senior season,” Aggie head football coach Mike Sherman said. “Beyond his play on the field, he has been a leader as the defensive captain and he has given great effort across the board. That includes the off-season workouts, the classroom, the film room and I am very proud of him.”
The award winner will be announced next Wednesday, Dec. 8.
