The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team dropped a close meet, 163-137, against rival Texas Friday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.

The Aggies posted five individual event victories, three on the swimming side and two in the diving well.

"For the time of the year it is, this was a good meet for us," said head swimming coach Steve Bultman. "For the amount of work we've been putting into practice, I was very pleased with the swims we had out there."

Senior diver Jaele Patrick won both diving events of the night, with a score of 317.85 on the 1-meter springboard event and a score of 357.65 on the 3-meter springboard.

"We've been working the girls really hard and I was very proud of their performance out there, " head diving coach Jay Lerew said. "We missed a few dives, but obviously taking one and two is great."

Junior diver Janie Potvin followed behind Patrick, posting second place finishes in both springboard events. Potvin scored 246.3 on the 3-meter board and a 304.1 on the 1-meter.

Lerew said that Janie's progress can be attributed to her hard work even out of the pool.

"Janie has been a monster in the weight room," Lerew said. "Her work with my wife, a fellow French-Canadian, has also been a great influence on her progress."

Junior swimmer Rita Medrano led the Aggies in the lanes with a pair of victories, in the 200 butterfly (1:57.04) and a come-from-behind victory from lane six in the 100 butterfly (54.79).

"Winning the 200 was great for me, because it was the event I really wanted to try and take first in," Medrano said. "Being in lane six, the 100 fly was a little more of a surprise. It was great to hear the crowd yelling for me, it's a feeling I can't even describe."

Senior Lindsey King took another win from the Longhorns with a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.45.

The Aggies will take a few weeks of practice time before heading to Alanta, GA., to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational Nov. 18-21.
