GOING BOWLING
Texas A&M earned its sixth victory Saturday to become bowl eligible for the second straight season under third-year head man Mike Sherman. The Aggies have been to 31 bowl games in its history, including seven in the last 11 years.
GRAY PICKS UP THE SLACK
Taking over the lion's share of running back carries due to Christine Michael's injury, junior Cyrus Gray rose to the challenge. Gray posted his third 100-yard rushing game with 122 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries against the Sooners. It was the sixth 100-yard game of Gray's career and the second highest output of his career (131 at Texas Tech last season).
Texas A&M improved to 6-0 on the season with a 100-yard rusher.
DEFENSE UP TO CHALLENGE AGAINST SOONERS
First year defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter's unit was up to the challenge against the high-power Sooners. The Aggies limited the Sooners to 362 yards. OU's season-low offensive output was 360 in its win over Texas on Oct. 2. The Aggies, who came into the game ranked No. 8 nationally against the run, limited the Sooners to just 72 rushing yards.
KNOCKING OFF A TOP-25 FOE
Saturday's win over Oklahoma (No. 11 AP) was the second for head coach Mike Sherman over an Associated Press top-25 opponent. His other victory came last season in a 52-30 defeat of No. 21 Texas Tech in Lubbock.
The last time an Aggie team beat a top-25 foe at Kyle Field was in the regular-season finale in 2007, when A&M defeated AP No. 12 Texas, 38-30.
HUGE NIGHT FOR HODGES
Senior linebacker Michael Hodges had a career night for the Aggies in Saturday's win over OU, recording a career-high 19 tackles and two sacks. That's the most tackles by an A&M defender since All-American and current linebacker coach Dat Nguyen notched 20 in the 1998 Cotton Bowl against UCLA.
JUDIE JUDIE JUDIE
Junior Coryell Judie became the seventh Aggie to score on a 100-yard kickoff return. On his first career kickoff return, Judie fielded the second half kickoff several yards deep in the endzone before cutting right down the sideline for the score. The last Aggie to log a 100-yard TD return was Sirr Parker against the Longhorns in Austin in 1996. The last Aggie to score on a kickoff return was Cyrus Gray on a 99-yarder against Colorado in 2009.
The Aggies have now scored a TD on a kickoff return in three straight seasons, marking the first time A&M has done that since the early 1970s. In addition to Judie's TD against OU, Cyrus Gray scored on a 99-yarder vs. CU in 2009 and 98-yarder vs. OU in 2008. The trio of TDs in the early 70s came from Hugh McElroy vs. Nebraska in 1971 and Carl Roaches against LSU in 1972 and Boston College in 1973.
FIRST HALF SHUTOUT BY AGGIE D
The Aggies battled to a 12-0 first half advantage, marking the first time since 2007 that A&M has shut out an opponent in the first half. The last time was the 2007 A&M-Kansas game when the two teams went into the second half tied at 0-0. Mark Mangino's Jayhawks went on to win 19-11 on their way to the Orange Bowl.
Other first half numbers: the Aggies gained 222 yards, including a balanced 100 on the ground and 122 via the air, and held the ball for 16 minutes and 27 seconds.
