COLLEGE STATION - In opening the 2010-2011 indoor track and field season this weekend the two-time national champion Texas A&M Aggies will host the Reveille Invitational, an 11-event meet featuring Baylor, Houston and TCU, on Saturday. The two-hour meet will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
The Reveille Invitational is the first of seven home meets hosted by Texas A&M, which includes completing the indoor season with the NCAA Championships in College Station on March 11-12.
Events contested on the track during the Reveille Invitational will include the 60 meters, 60 hurdles, 800 meters, 5,000 meters, 4 x 400 relay and distance medley relay. Field events will include the high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put and weight throw.
Ticket prices for the Reveille Invitational are $25 (gold section), $20 (silver), and $15 (bronze), along with $9 general admission and $5 for students. Doors will open at 11:30 on Saturday.
The four schools competing in the Aggie meet combined for 20 scoring finalist at last year's national indoor championships. Texas A&M provided a bulk of those athletes scoring in the NCAA Indoor meet with a total of 14 entries, seven each for the men and women.
The Aggie men tied for second at the NCAA Indoor Championships last season after placing third in the Big 12 meet while the A&M women finished fifth at the NCAA Indoor after winning a fourth consecutive Big 12 Indoor championship.
Houston's men won the Conference USA team title while TCU was team runner-up at the Mountain West in men's and women's competition. The Houston women were third in C-USA while Baylor's men placed fourth in the Big 12.
In addition the four schools accounted for 72 indoor conference medals in 2010, 26 of which were gold. The men's teams totaled 17 conference gold medals and 41 overall medals while the women's field achieved nine conference gold medals and 31 overall medals.
As the four-time Big 12 Indoor team champions, the Aggie women will return eight of their 11 conference medalist from a year ago. The Texas A&M men, third in the Big 12 Indoor the past two years, returns eight of its nine conference medalist.
