COOLUM, Queensland, Australia - Former Texas A&M standout Bobby Gates was the top American finisher in the $1.5 million Australian PGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola at Hyatt Regency Coolum.

Gates placed sixth overall after firing a 10-under 278 (64-69-71-74) as play wrapped up early Monday, finishing two strokes back of the lead. Australia's Peter Senior defeated Geoff Ogilvy on the second playoff hole to claim the overall title.

A four-year letterwinner for the Aggies from 2005-2008, Gates earned his American PGA Tour card for the 2011 season after an outstanding campaign on the Nationwide Tour this past year.
