COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M women's basketball team is off to a 9-1 start on the season and climbed to a No. 5 national ranking in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
Fresh off of a 79-50 victory over Rutgers at the Maggie Dixon Classic in New York City, the Aggies achieved their highest ranking since Dec. 8, 2009, when the team was also ranked fifth in the Coaches Poll. A&M has now been ranked in the Coaches Poll for 86 consecutive weeks and 40 all-time in the top 10.
In the poll, Connecticut remains in the top spot unanimously followed by Baylor, Duke and Xavier. Rounding out the top 10 is Tennessee, West Virginia, Stanford, UCLA and North Carolina. A&M is one of four Big 12 schools in the Coaches Poll, including No. 2 Baylor, No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 21 Iowa State. Oklahoma State, Texas, Nebraska, Kansas and Texas Tech are also receiving votes.
Up next, the Aggies travel to the west coast when they journey to San Diego after Christmas for the four-team Surf `N Slam College Hoops Classic.
