COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Some special local visitors made an appearance at the end of Tuesday's Texas A&M football practice in College Station, as well as one large jolly fellow in a red suit.

Aggie head football coach Mike Sherman has expressed a desire to work with the Twin City Mission in the Bryan-College Station community to assist families in need this holiday season. His players responded by donating money to purchase clothes and gifts for families who are spending the holidays at the Twin City Mission.

"We are so blessed to be a part of this community," Sherman said. "The folks at Twin City Mission provide a great service and working with them we wanted to have some of the families come to practice and be a part of our team. The youngsters seemed to have a good time at practice and when Santa Claus arrived in the back of a pickup with presents you could see their eyes light up. It wasn't that long ago many of our players were the age of these children and getting to open presents is such a joy."

"Without the help and support of our community and especially Coach Sherman and the Aggie football team, these families would not have much to open this holiday season," Ron Crozier, Director of the Twin City Mission, said. "The presents and getting to see Santa Claus was a thrill, but I think the kids enjoyed being around the football players the most."

Coach Sherman and each group of Aggie football players from the various classifications (seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshman) will spend time at Twin City Mission this holiday season visiting with families and serving meals.

The Aggies will continue preparations for the 2011 AT&T Cotton Bowl against the LSU Tigers on Jan. 7 in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
