COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The 12th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team continued on its winning ways with a 6-1 victory over UT Arlington on Wednesday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Aggies extended their win streak to seven and raised their record to 14-4 on the season, while the Mavericks dropped to 4-8.
A&M captured the doubles point with a pair of 8-4 victories courtesy of the fifth-ranked tandem of junior All-American Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas) versus Brieuc Hamon and Yauheni Yakauleu at No. 2.
A&M took a 2-0 lead in the match after sophomore John Lewis (Birmingham, Ala.) defeated Mindaugas Celedinas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 singles to improve to an undefeated 4-0 on the season. He was followed by sophomore Colin Hoover (Victoria, Texas) who beat Brieuc Hamon, 6-0, 6-4, at the No. 3 line.
Marcus Lunt gave up just one game in his second and third sets versus UT Arlington's David Subirats after a 3-6 setback in the first set to clinch the match victory for the Aggies at No. 4. Junior Patrick Dean (Dallas, Texas) won his third-set super tiebreaker versus Jason Lateko, 7-4, 4-6, 1-0 (6), to add the final point to the scoreboard.
The Aggies will take on No. 39 Rice (10-8) tonight in the second session of the tennis twinbill at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
