COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior Andrea Pavan (pronounced ON-dray-uh pah-VON) has been selected to represent Europe in the 2010 Palmer Cup, which will be contested at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland on June 24-26.
Pavan, from Rome, Italy, was selected to the European Palmer Cup team for the second straight year, and he helped Europe to a victory over the United States at Cherry Hills Country Club in Englewood, Colo., in 2009. The collegiate equivalent of the Ryder Cup has been played annually since 1997, and the U.S. and Europe are tied 6-6-1.
"Andrea is one of the best amateur players in the world and being selected to The Palmer Cup is one of the highest honors in collegiate golf," Aggie golf coach J.T. Higgins said. "Obviously we are pretty excited for him. He has worked extremely hard to become a great player and he's certainly deserving of this recognition. He's extremely tough to beat in match play and will be a big asset to the European side."
Joining Pavan on the European squad are Henrik Norlander of Augusta State (Sweden), Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State (Sweden), Pontus Widegren of UCLA (Sweden), David Lingmerth of Arkansas (Sweden), Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State (England), James Byrne of Arizona State (Scotland) and Patrick Spraggs of Stirling University (England)
