IRVING, Texas - Texas A&M junior All-American Austin Krajicek (pronounced CRY-check) was named co-Big 12 Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year as the league postseason awards were announced on Wednesday.
Krajicek, a left-hander from Brandon, Fla., shared the honor with Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas and is currently ranked No. 6 in the country in the latest Campbell/ITA rankings with a 22-9 overall record. The two-time Big 12 Player of the Week selection compiled an 18-5 dual record and was crowned co-Big 12 Conference No. 1 singles champion with a 5-1 league mark. He becomes only the second Aggie on three occasions to earn Player of the Year honors next to former four-time All-American Shuon Madden (1998-01) in 2000 and 2001. Krajicek also earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Team in singles and doubles for the third consecutive year.
Junior Jeff Dadamo (pronounced duh-DOM-oh), a left-hander from Tampa, Fla., was tabbed Big 12 Newcomer of the Year after posting a 26-10 overall and 17-7 record in dual matches. He is currently ranked No. 39 nationally and was crowned co-Big 12 No. 2 singles champion with a 4-2 mark. Dadamo, a transfer from the University of Florida, is the fourth A&M player to earn such distinction along with former two-time All-American Ante Matijevic (2002-05) in 2002, Tres Davis (2001) in 2001 and two-time All-American Ryan Newport (2000-03) in 2000. He also garnered All-Big 12 honors in singles and doubles. Dadamo and Krajicek are one of the top 5 tandems in the nation with an impressive 18-8 dual record.
The All-Big 12 Tennis Teams and awards were selected by the league's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
