
Lenz's Lonestar '91 Team Wins National Championship

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas - Texas A&M freshman Rachel Lenz's Lonestar '91 soccer team was crowned the 2010 US Youth Soccer National Champion this past weekend at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.
The championship match was tied 1-1 after overtime and Lenz (Round Rock, Texas) netted the game-winning penalty kick to give her Under-19 Lonestars '91 Red a 4-2 advantage over the Eclipse Select in a shootout. The team claimed the club's first national championship and first girl's title for a team from South Texas.
Lenz and the Lonestar '91 advanced to the national championship finals after going 2-1-0 in the preliminary rounds. In those rounds, her squad defeated the S. Alameda County California Northstars, 3-2, and the FC Bucks Vipers, 1-0. In fact, Lenz scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute to defeat the California Northstars.
The Lonestars secured their first US Youth Soccer Region III Championship earlier this summer and started their journey to the national championship alongside more than 10,000 teams at the US Youth Soccer State Championships.
The 2010 US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country's most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The event provides over 185,000 players from US Youth Soccer's 55 state associations, the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play. The Series is known as the ultimate destination for the country's collegiate soccer coaches and the future of soccer.
