COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior Rachel Shipley was named as one of 45 of the best women's Division I intercollegiate soccer players that comprise the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2010 season.
A native of Plano, Texas, Shipley was also chosen to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team earlier today. She was the only unanimous selection. The Aggie midfielder earned All-Big 12 first team accolades in 2009, in addition to garnering NSCAA All-Central Region first team honors and TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Season accolades. Shipley led A&M with 27 points, nine assists, 87 shots and 33 shots on goal last year. She was second on the team with nine goals and ended the season ranked third in the Big 12 in points, assists and shots.
The No. 8 Aggie soccer team was one of just three Big 12 schools with players named to the prestigious list.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
