The Big 12 South Tri-Champion Texas A&M football team received final top 25 rankings from both major polls on Tuesday for the first time since 1999 as the 2010 season ended with the BCS National Championship game on Monday night.
The 9-4 Aggies, led by third-year head coach Mike Sherman, finished No. 19 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 21 in the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Aggies were 3-3 before rolling off six straight Big 12 wins to earn a share of the Big 12 South crown and a trip to the 75th AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic.
The Aggies' rugged 2010 schedule included six teams that finished in both top 25 rankings, including a 33-19 win over No. 6 (AP)/6 (Coaches) Oklahoma and a 9-6 win over No. 20/19 Nebraska. Other Aggie opponents in the final polls were No. 8/8 LSU (Cotton Bowl), No. 12/12 Arkansas, No. 13/10 Oklahoma State and No. 18/18 Missouri.
In the AP Polls: Texas A&M is one of only two schools in the nation to be ranked in the top 20 of the current editions of the Associated Press polls for football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The Aggies finished the 2010 season ranked No. 19 in football and are currently ranked No. 14 in men's basketball and No. 7 in women's hoops. The other team is the Ohio State Buckeyes, which finished No. 5 in football and are ranked No. 2 in men's basketball and No. 20 in women's basketball.
