The Texas A&M Softball team was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 Preseason Coaches' Poll released Tuesday by the conference office.
Coming off of its ninth straight and 21st overall NCAA Tournament appearance, A&M received 54 points and finished behind Oklahoma (79), the preseason favorite for three consecutive years, Missouri (71) and Texas (69).
The Aggies were chosen to finish sixth in the Big 12 in 2010, and ended the season at third in the conference.
Texas A&M returns seven letterwinners from last year's 44-16 squad, including 2010 All-Big 12 first team member Rhiannon Kliesing. Joining her in the circle are sophomore and 2010 All-Big 12 second team honoree Mel Dumezich and redshirt junior Lindsey Sisk.
Oklahoma State placed fifth with 50 points, followed by Baylor (40), Texas Tech (33), Nebraska (26), Iowa State (15) and Kansas (13).
Texas A&M softball kicks off the 2011 season on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Aggies' home opener is Feb. 18 against UT Arlington in the Aggie Classic.
