Texas A&M softball All-American Meagan May was named to the Top 50 watch list for the 10th Annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) announced Wednesday.
May was one of 15 sophomores selected to the list. The top 25 will be announced April 13, followed by 10 finalists on May 11. The group will be narrowed to three by May 25 before the winner is announced prior to the start of the 2011 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
The Spring, Texas, native was named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Div. I All-America second team as a freshman after setting the A&M and Big 12 records for home runs in a season with 24. May twice garnered Big 12 Player of the Week honors, and was selected to the All-Big 12 first team, the Big 12 All-Tournament team and the NCAA Baton Rouge All-Tournament team.
Aggie softball kicks off the 2011 season on Feb. 11 against Cal State Fullerton at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The team returns to College Station Feb. 18 for the home opener vs. UT Arlington in the Aggie Classic. For more information on Texas A&M softball, go to www.AggieAthletics.com.
