TIME/DATE CHANGE: Friday's scheduled State Farm Lone Star Showdown between the Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team and Texas in Austin has been postponed due to hazardous weather to Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center in Austin.
The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team will face the Texas Longhorns in a battle of top 20 programs at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Jamail Swimming Center in Austin.
The No. 19 Aggies will put their 5-0 dual meet record on the line against the No. 4 Longhorns, who have compiled a 5-1 record this season. The annual slugfest will serve as the State Farm Lone Star Showdown between the two teams, and the Longhorns currently hold a narrow 5.0-2.5 lead in the all-sports competition between A&M and Texas.
"We're looking forward to a great college dual meet," Aggie head coach Jay Holmes said. "It's important because we have a long rivalry with Texas, but also important because it's our last competition before the Big 12 meet. We'd be focused regardless of our opponent, but since it's Texas it means more. It's time to swim fast."
The Aggies are 5-0 for the first time since 2003-04 and a victory over Texas would give A&M its first undefeated dual meet season since 1955-56 when Art Adamson's tankers logged wins over Northwest Louisiana, Florida, Florida State, Emory, Georgia Tech, SMU, Texas and Rice. Adamson's Aggies went on to win the Southwest Conference and placed 15th at the NCAA Championships.
The Aggies are coming off at 166-134 "Senior Day" win over LSU on Jan. 22 at the Texas A&M Student Recreation Natatorium. The Aggies won nine of 16 events against the Tigers, including sweeps of both relays. Tallying individual wins were seniors Balazs Makany (100 free) and Bryan Snowden (100 and 200 breaststroke), junior Grant Nel (1- and 3-meter dives), and sophomores Omar Enriquez (500 and 1,000 free) and John Dalton (200 free).
Live results and a video stream of the meet will be available on the Longhorns website: texassports.com
