Former Bowling Green standout Susie Grunden has transferred to the Texas A&M women's golf program and will be immediately eligible to compete, Aggie golf coach Trelle McCombs announced.
“Susy is going to add tremendous depth to our roster,” McCombs said. “She has some wins under her belt in college, and I look for her to really compete for a spot on the team.”
Grunden, from Krum, Texas, was Bowling Green's top player as a freshman in 2009-10, and posted an individual victory at the Zippy Invitational (Fairlawn Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio) with rounds of 77-73-76. Her second-round 73 was the lowest round by a freshman in Bowling Green History. She led the team with a 78.53 scoring, which set the school record, and posted four top 10 finishes.
Last summer, Grunden competed in the U.S. Amateur Championships at the Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. She fired rounds of 79-85 and finished in a tie for 145th. She qualified for the U.S. Amateur after shooting the third lowest round (75) at a qualifying tournament at River Oaks Country Club in Houston.
Grunden, who graduated from the Denton Calvary Academy, was one of the state's top juniors, ranking No. 14 in the state as a senior by Junior Golf Scoreboard.
