COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The process of renovating Olsen Field into one of the country's finest college baseball facilities officially got underway Saturday morning with a brief ground-breaking ceremony on the Texas A&M campus.
The ceremony, which was moved inside from Olsen Field to the Stepp Grand Lobby at Kyle Field, featured remarks by Texas A&M University President Bowen Loftin, Director of Athletics Bill Byrne, head baseball coach Rob Childress, 12th Man Foundation Board of Trustees chair Neal Adams and Championship Vision Campaign chairman Steven Morris.
Additionally, Howard and Ed Kruse, former Texas A&M students and executives of Blue Bell Creameries whose pledge of $7 million was the lead gift on the project, spoke about their involvement in the campaign which will rename the facility Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Construction at Olsen Field is expected to begin in the coming weeks with completion slated for the spring of 2012.
