COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M men's golf team is ranked ninth in Golfweek's first poll of the spring season, released Monday.

The Aggies are coming off one of the strongest fall seasons in school history, finishing no worse than fourth in all five tournaments.

A&M placed second in the season-opening Topy Cup of Japan and was the top American collegiate team, third at the prestigious U.S. Collegiate Championship in Georgia, fourth in the top tournament of the fall, the PING/Golfweek Preview in Stillwater, and fourth in the Husky Invitational in Seattle. In the Aggies' final action of the fall, they recorded a second-place showing at the Baylor Intercollegiate in Dallas.

Oklahoma State topped the rankings, followed by UCLA, Florida, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Texas, Illinois, LSU, the Aggies and Auburn.

Individually, Texas A&M has four players in the top 100 nationally. Junior Jordan Russell (71.24 average) is ranked 28th, while senior Nacho Elvira (72.00) is 56th, sophomore Cameron Peck (72.00) is 79th and sophomore Case Cochran (73.18) is 91st.

The Aggies open a busy spring slate next week at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on O'ahu. The tournament is scheduled for Feb. 16-18 at Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa. The Aggie Invitational, A&M's lone home tournament of the season, is set for April 16 and 17 at Traditions Club.
