COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
Texas A&M softball All-American Meagan May was named to the 2011 ESPN.com/NFCA Preseason All-America first team, the organization recently announced.
May was the only Big 12 player named to the predictive first team. Missouri's Rhea Taylor, Keilani Ricketts of Oklahoma, and Texas' Blaire Luna were all second-team selections.
The sophomore catcher from Spring, Texas, was selected to the preseason team after an outstanding freshman season in 2010. May ended the season as the record holder for both A&M and the Big 12 for home runs in a season with 24. She tallied 66 hits and posted an impressive .945 slugging percentage that ranked fourth in the nation.
May is a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week selection and was named to the All-Big 12 first team, the Big 12 All-Tournament team, the 2010 NCAA Baton Rouge All-Tournament team, the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Div. I All-Central Region first team, and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Div. I All-America second team as a freshman. She was also chosen for the USA Softball Futures team last summer, but a car accident caused her to end the season early.
The No. 19 Aggies continue with day two of the Kajikawa Classic today, battling No. 16 BYU at 10 a.m. CST before taking on top-ranked Arizona at 12:30 p.m.
