COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M has withdrawn from the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, head coach Mark Turgeon announced Monday.
The event is scheduled around Christmas at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Turgeon cited a late summer foreign tour, previous game commitments during the Thanksgiving break and the expanded 18-game Big 12 schedule as concerns that a trip to Honolulu would make the team's season an extremely long one.
"I want to thank Pete Derzis and ESPN for allowing us to delay our participation in the Diamond Head Classic until 2013," Turgeon said. "I know it will be a great college basketball event that we are excited to be a part of."
