ATLANTA - Texas A&M senior Danielle Adams was named to the 2010-11 Naismith midseason list of the top 30 women's basketball players in the nation, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced.
Adams, a 6-foot-1 combination forward/center is the Big 12 Conference's leading scorer (23.0 ppg) and rebounder (8.5 rpg) who broke Texas A&M's single game scoring record with a 40-point gem against Kansas on Feb. 12. She posts 10 double-doubles this season and was already chosen to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 list back in January.
From Kansas City, Mo., Adams is the only four-time Big 12 Player of the Week this season in the league and she earned spots on the Cancun Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team and was named the San Diego Surf `N Slam Classic MVP. Adams is also a member of the 2010-11 Wade Trophy Watch List, was named a Preseason All-American by the Sporting News' and was a Preseason All-Big 12 selection.
The Naismith midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy, presented by AT&T, will be awarded on April 4, 2011 at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis.
Since 2005, presenting sponsor AT&T has set the standard in allowing fans to participate in determining the trophy winner through text messaging. Fan voting will account for 25 percent of all of the final results - more than any other national college basketball award.
Notable Naismith Women's College Player of the Year winners include Chamique Holdsclaw, Lisa Leslie, Rebecca Lobo, Maya Moore and last year's winner Tina Charles. The Naismith Trophy is the most prestigious national award presented annually to college basketball's player of the year.
