The defending Big 12 Champion Texas A&M women's golf team stands in second place after playing two rounds of the Central District Invitational on Monday at the River Wilderness Golf Club in Parrish, Fla.
With a pair of individuals among the top six, the Aggies trail No. 4 LSU by just one shot as they enter Tuesday's final round. A&M is 8-over after carding rounds of 290 (+2) and 294 (+6), while the Tigers are 7-over with rounds of 293 (+5) and 290 (+2). Rounding out the top 10 behind LSU and A&M are No. 16 Iowa State (+9), No. 32 TCU (+11), No. 22 Kent State (+20), Northwestern (+22), No. 18 Michigan State (+27), Michigan (+27), Ohio State (+29) and Minnesota (+31).
"As a team, we played pretty well and we fought hard through both rounds," Aggie senior Sarah Zwartynski said. "We left a few shots out there, but we're working hard to correct those mistakes so we can shoot low in the final round. We are ready to get back out there and finish strong."
The Aggies were led by freshman Katerina Ruzickova, who fired rounds of 69 and 74 and stands in a tie for fourth at 1-under with the nation's top-ranked player Megan McChrystal of LSU. Zwartynski, the 2010 Texas State Amateur Champ, contributed rounds of 71 and 73 and is tied for sixth at even-par.
Freshman Sarah Beth Davis is right behind in a tie for 15th at 5-over after rounds of 77 and 72. Freshman Chelsea Mocio is tied for 53rd at 12-over with rounds of 80 and 76.
The Aggies will begin final round play at 7 a.m. (central) and will be paired with Ohio State and Iowa State.
