NEW ORLEANS -- The Texas A&M women's golf team look to continue its recent strong play to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Sunday through Tuesday at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.
The Aggies are coming off a third-place finish at last week's Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., that saw them challenging for the team lead late in the final round. A&M finished with two players among the top 10 individuals and posted head-to-head wins over seven teams ranked ahead of them in the Golfstat team rankings.
"We're excited to see if we can take our momentum from last week into this tournament," Aggie head coach Trelle McCombs said. "We did a lot of good things last week, but we're still not where we want to be to achieve our goals for this season. We need to keep building on the progress we made in Florida; that's what this team is focusing on."
The Aggies got their first look at the English Turn Golf Club during a practice round on Saturday.
"We looked sharp today during the practice round," McCombs said. "This course has very small greens so it's going to come down to the short game this week."
The Aggies will use virtually the same lineup as last week, except for the addition of mid-term transfer Susy Grunden from Bowling Green. Grunden, originally from Krum, Texas, will be making her debut for the maroon and white. Joining Grunden in the lineup is senior Sarah Zwartynski and the freshman trio of Chelsea Mocio, Natalie Reeves and Katerina Ruzickova.
"We get to see our newest member of the team in action," McCombs said. "We're using a different lineup this week due to injury prevention. Susy joined us at mid-term and we're excited to see her in action."
The Aggies will tee off at 8 a.m. on Sunday from the 10th hole, and will be paired with Mississippi and Florida.
