NEW ORLEANS --- The Texas A&M women's golf team is tied for 11th after firing a 302 in blustery opening round conditions at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Sunday at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.

The Aggies were 14-over par and stand 14 shots behind host Tulane, which used its local knowledge of the course to shoot even par on Sunday. Rounding out the top 10 teams behind the No. 15 Green Wave are No. 5 Duke (+2), No. 4 LSU (+3), No. 10 Arizona State (+5), No. 13 Vanderbilt (+6), No. 1 Alabama (+7), No. 2 USC (+9), No. 8 Virginia (+10), Florida (+10), and No. 17 Tennessee (+12).

"The wind really picked up around our eighth hole and gusted up to 30 miles per hour," Aggie coach Trelle McCombs said. "It made for some extremely tough conditions, but I was proud of the way we battled through the adversity. We have a great gameplan for the second round and I hope we can make a move inside the top 10. If we can get a couple more putts to drop for us, we will be right in there."

A&M was led by freshman Katerina Ruzickova, who turned in a 1-over par 73 and stands in a tie for 15th. Shining in her A&M debut was mid-term transfer Susy Grunden, who shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 24th. Grunden, from Krum, Texas, joined the team in January after transferring from Bowling Green.

"Susy was awesome today," McCombs said. "She was composed all day even when she had the triple bogey (on hole 4, Aggies started on back nine). To come back and birdie two of the last four holes was awesome. I think she's going to be a valuable addition to our team."

Senior Sarah Zwartynski carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for 33rd. The fourth scorer for the Aggies was freshman Chelsea Mocio, who contributed an 8-over 80 and is tied for 73rd. Fellow freshman Natalie Reeves is tied for 92nd after an opening round 84.

The Aggies will begin teeing off from the 10th hole at 8 a.m. on Monday and will be teamed with Mississippi and Florida.
