COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Six former Texas A&M football players are set to work out for a number of NFL clubs and personnel at the annual Texas A&M Pro Day on Wednesday, Mar. 9. The workouts are closed to the general public.
Offensive lineman Matt Allen, quarterback Jerrod Johnson, outside linebacker Von Miller and defensive lineman Lucas Patterson are all seniors who led the Aggies to a 9-4 record in 2010 and a share of the Big 12 South Division title with a 6-2 league mark.
“Tomorrow is a big day for those who have aspirations of playing in the NFL,” Aggie head football coach Mike Sherman said. “All of these players have worked extremely hard and I appreciate all they have given to Texas A&M. This is much like a job interview and hopefully all of them will perform well and get an opportunity to pursue their dream.”
“When you have a player like Von (Miller), who is projected to be a high first-round draft pick, doing some of the drills,” Sherman said. “You have more NFL personnel in attendance, and in turn, some of our guys may get a closer look.”
Also working out for the NFL personnel will be former running back Jorvorskie Lane and linebacker Matt Featherston.
After a brief introduction to the NFL personnel, the players will proceed to the indoor football facility that is part of the McFerrin Athletic Center. Players can be timed in the 40-yard dash, timed in the 5-10-5 shuttle and the L or 3-cone drill, tested with a 225-pound bench press, vertical jump, broad jump and a long shuttle drill as well as individual workouts related to specific positions.
Last spring, defensive back Jordan Pugh was a sixth-round selection by the Carolina Panthers and offensive lineman Kevin Matthews, Lee Grimes and Michael Shumard all signed free agent contracts as well as tight end/fullback Jamie McCoy.
