COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior catcher Kevin Gonzalez was honored this week when he was selected to the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John's Pizza.
The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission selected 42 catchers to the watch list after being nominated by their coaches for the award, which is given annually to the top NCAA Division I catcher.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced on May 19 before the finalists are unveiled on June 6. The 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award is set to be presented in a ceremony in Wichita, Kan., on June 30.
Entering this weekend's FIU series, Gonzalez is batting .310 with a home run and a team-leading five doubles while providing outstanding defense behind the plate.
