BATON ROUGE, La. - The No. 25 Texas A&M women's golf team surged to its third consecutive strong finish to open the spring portion of the 2010-11 season with an eighth place finish at the LSU Golf Classic on Sunday at the University Club.
The Aggies posted head-to-head wins over No. 11 Tulane and No. 13 North Carolina, while finishing behind Arkansas (+24), No. 7 Virginia (+31), No. 1 Alabama (+36), No. 18 Tennessee (+36), No. 4 Duke (+36), No. 5 LSU (+38) and No. 17 Wake Forest (+45). A&M was 16-over on Sunday with a 304 total and finished 46-over with rounds of 298-308-304=910.
The Aggies' four scorers on Sunday were freshman Natalie Reeves (+2), senior Sarah Zwartynski (+3), freshman Katerina Ruzickova (+5) and sophomore Susy Grunden (+6).
"I'm really proud of our continued patience this week," Aggie coach Trelle McCombs said. "Our freshman Natalie Reeves really stepped up this week under some tough conditions. We have shown ourselves that we can play with the best. Now we just have to get a little sharper around the greens and with our wedges and we will be right there."
In the individual standings, Reeves led the Aggie finishers with a tie for 17th at 8-over with rounds of 75-75-74=224. Zwartynski tied for 22nd at 10-over with rounds of 75-76-75=226. Ruzickova tied for 26th at 11-over with rounds of 75-75-77=227. Grunden tied for 47th at 17-over with rounds of 73-82-78=233.
